Marbles Quail Water

The water container needs to be easily accessible but also prevent the quail from drowning.

You might need to use a lid from a reusable food container or a small tray till they get big enough to reach a regular sized chick feeder. Even with the quail sized screw on watering bases it s worth putting some small marbles or stones in there so that tiny quail chicks can t topple in. Make sure that the chicks cannot drown in the water container and have easy access to it. Use a waterer that is specifically made for quail chicks which will help prevent the baby chicks from drowning in a bowl or saucer or chicken waterer.

An easy way to ensure that they don t drown is to put marbles in a shallow bowl with the water. Button quail need warmth. Clean and refill their water containers daily. Quail poop should be cleaned out of the cage daily.

I fed the button quail chicks gamebird starter. Most breeders will put marbles in the water container to prevent the quail from drowning. Be sure to put marbles in your water bowls so the quail don t drown and keep food easy to reach for their tiny little legs. To easily make a deeper water bowl shallower and safe for quail chicks put stones or marbles at the bottom of it.

Or you could opt to use a drown proof game chick waterer base. You can also buy a special quail water feeder at your local pet or bird store. For smaller birds such as tiny bantams guinea keets quail and pheasants you might put marbles or clean gravel in the base for the first few days until the birds grow big enough not to fall into the water. Somewhere along the line we didn t catch on that our button quail couldn t just harden off and move outside like our chickens.

You ll want to use a quail waterer like this one or a nipple style waterer so that quail chicks can t splash around in their water. You may want to place clean marbles or gravel in the bottom of the water bowl for a week or two so that the chicks can get a drink without falling in or getting wet and cold. For the first three days use a 100 watt bulb to help the chicks find feed and water. Their cages should be washed down and dried poop cleaned up.

Clean up quail cages. Young quail can drown in watering containers so consider putting a mesh over it or adding marbles to keep them from being able to be submerged in the water. Part 2 of 3. Provide clean freshwater daily.
